The aim of the Prosthetics-Orthotics programme is to provide the students with prostheses and orthoses training which will enable them to become professional prosthetics and orthotics technician.
The programme covers all aspects of education and training in both prosthetics and orthotics. The orthotics lectures consist of caring for patients with disabling conditions of the limb or spine by providing devices known as orthoses. And also prosthetics lectures consist of caring for patients with partial or total absence of limb by designing, fabricating and fitting devices known as prostheses. As a result prosthetics and orthotics technician duties, include assisting the physician’s prescription for prostheses and orthoses, taking measurements, model rectification, selection of materials, patient fitting, alignment of prosthesis on the patient and maintaining patient records.
